Ash Runners [Eoas, 154 Words]

A large species of bug bred by the orcs of the ashlands. Ash runners sustain their large size by possessing both endo and exoskeletons. They are, in appearance, large crickets. Ash runners can measure up to 172 centimetres (68 inches) at the withers when standing at their full height. They can fold their legs to crouch. Doing so brings them low to the ground. A crouching ash runner stands at 96 centimetres at the withers (38 inches). Ash runners have two types of movement. The first is a rapid skitter that they can maintain for long distances. The second is a very rapid jump forward that can cross gaps faster than any other mount on Eoas. Orcish cavalry are notorious for using their jumping movements to shatter enemy lines. Ash runners in the Gorkiline military are often modified by the priests of the Harvest of Ash to sustain themselves on ash from the ashlands.
